Goldfinch
The Goldfinch was my first favourite bird! When I was little like most Irish children I would love to watch the birds on the bird table each morning while having my breakfast before school. My mother would feed them nuts and seeds and any leftover oats on the tarmac next to the lawn. We would have so many different types of birds come and join in on the feast each day.
Every now and then a wildlife expert called John Carmody would come to our school (sometimes with a wild animal) and tell us many different things about Irish wildlife. It was always exciting with quizzes and prizes. It was completely different from any other day. He asked us to tell him about the Goldfinch and I had all the answered obsessing with them for ages as it was a new bird to our feeders starting to outnumber the greenfinches and I got the biggest most colourful lollipop you could imagine! I went home very proud that day!
